Summing up 8 years of futility in one paragraph

I'm working on my Yankees season preview, but I wanted to follow up my book review with a key excerpt from The Yankee Years:

Ho. Lee. Shit.

I knew it was bad, but that's comically, befuddlingly bad. By hey, we spent a few hundred million on Kevin Brown, Javier Vasquez, Jeff Weaver, Alyssa Milano Pavano, Randy Johnson, and Roger "Oh my goodness gracious" Clemens (2007 edition). So we have that going for us. Which is nice.

I smell years of lawsuits

A building planned for 49 stories has been cut to 28, because of "improperly installed rebar" on the first 15 floors.

Who's going to want to go near that thing anyway? Yes, I'm sure the engineers have adjusted for the new load-bearing capacity of the bottom floors, and 28 stories is well within standards. It's just creepy knowledge to have.

Holy emmer effing ess - economy edition

Roubini, who's been right on everything so far, predicts what "worse" is.

I read, and re-read, and re-read this. I don't know how many times. I still can't believe I'm about to type: 2/3 of houses/condos sold in Detroit are foreclosures, and the median price is $9,250.

There is no word in the dictionary for that. Or maybe there is, you tell me. Is there a word for:

(10 x stunned) + (7.78 x incredulous) + (8.4 x scared shitless) + "dash of WTF" - "glad I don't live in Detroit"

I think not.

We're gonna need a bigger boat

Wall Street as we know it is done.

BoA buys Merrill, and Lehman left to rot?

New "liquidity initiatives," or bailout plans?

AIG and WaMu certain to fall next?

10s of thousands of i-bankers soon to be unemployed, aimlessly wandering the streets of Manhattan in their stripey shirts?

The formerly-Virgin Ben has not yet learned to logic

Sadly NO! performs one of their always amusing schoolings.

On education and more

The Dark Wraith has spoken. And he has spoken good well.

While you're there, read this on monetary policy, and this on the insanity of the "rebate" checks.

And, most importantly, this. This is why China owns us.

UPDATE: Mike brings up a good point. White text on black sucks to read. But there are other color schemes available, at the top of the left column. Read these fuckers, will ya?!
