More literary, and some funny

Posnanski on Frost's The Road Not Taken. Bravo. I think about this a lot. If any one thing I did, ever, was different, would I still be here where I am today? How do I balance regret with the fact that I like where I am? I have a terribly crippling conscience, among other issues I wouldn't know how to begin to describe; there are so many things I wish I'd done differently. But if I had, I wouldn't be with Erica, with a nice house in Saratoga (a great little city), doing work I enjoy and at which I excel. I try to remember that whenever I get down on myself, but it's hard sometimes.

Do you ever think about the parallel universe you? Do you ever go back to that fork in the road - maybe you had two job offers at the same time, or two people you had to choose between relationship-wise, or any similar decision point - and wonder where the other road led?

In other news, Big Daddy Drew's latest Penthouse column is hilarious. (The ads on the page seem to be work-safe.) Ahhh, macho hang-ups... always a source of amusement to me.

Missing link

Forgot this in the linkdump. Posnanski with a great post on Tiger, the Masters, his early days in the sportswriting business, and being assigned to the Augusta despite knowing nothing about golf.

With his name in lights...

JoePoz makes the cover of SI.

Well-deserved.

On the magic of live music

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

This was pretty much what I was going through when I saw Pearl Jam, 5/6/06. Except I can't write like that.

On Stan "The Man" Musial

JoePoz on one of the greatest players no one remembers.

I remember that All Century thing, and I remember my WTF moment when I realized he didn't make the team by fan vote. The intervention by the MLB-appointed panel was quite welcome.

We're talking one of the greatest 10 hitters of all time, and he couldn't crack the top 10 outfielders?! The lesson is, as always, people are idiots.

The magic of sports

Another beauty from JoePoz.

Baseball is truly the best game in the world.

My brother and I screamed so loud that night, in my basement, that we woke up my girlfriend on the second floor.

Then the Yanks did it again the next night, and we were even louder. At least she was awake that time, though.

The most amazing back-to-back nights of baseball I had seen to that point, and I'm not sure it's been topped. And 2001 definitely gets my vote for best World Series ever.

Brilliant

As Posnanski always is.

Seriously, you need to read this guy. You don't even have to care about sports. You need to read this guy.

On Tiger.

UPDATE: Someone in comments there posted this link, about Tiger's days playing at the Navy course with his father. Some people just don't deserve to live. I think Tiger should go buy that course and make it "Black Only." Just for shits and giggles.
