UPDATE: Unfortunately, this didn't end well. Her husband, a marine, has been charged with her murder. This is ridiculous. Three stories like this just in the past month, and countless others over the last few years. Philip Baron (at Shakes and Waveflux) has also been pushing the LaVena Johnson story for quite a while now, and it's just starting to hit the blogging public's consciousness. How long before the media catches on?

Army Pride

Another of countless women soldiers the military failed to protect from a predatory male soldier. And, of course, another coverup exposed.

Army Specialist Kamisha Block died last summer in what the Army officially characterized as a non-combat incident and told her family was a case of "friendly fire." Well, if by "friendly" they meant "deliberately killed by a fellow soldier that had been abusing her without punishment to date" and by "fire" they meant "shot her five times and then killed himself," then it was an honest assessment of the situation. Otherwise, they just straight out lied to cover up the fact that the Army failed to protect one of its soldiers from domestic abuse and then lied to cover up the end result of their not-benign neglect.

America has truly lost its way under GOP reign.
