1,000 words? Try 1,000,000.

Throw in a couple dozen emotions too.

That picture KILLS me. Dead.

Warning

Only read this if you want to cry for the next ten minutes.

Do not say I didn't warn you. A courtesy my coworker MB didn't extend to me when she sent me the link this afternoon.

Gigapan? I hardly know her!

I've only seen this referenced at Sully's and tech blogs like Gizmodo, so I'll do my part to spread it around.

What you're looking at is a 1474 gigapixel image, assembled from well over 200 images shot using a specialized rig that scans and pans at intervals you can set to establish both a wide range and a lot of depth.

Here's a screen cap of the whole thing:

And here is a zoom of Chimpy, Darth, and families. Even here, Bush is making a shitty little poutyface. Man, he needs to fall headfirst into a gaping void.

Here are two more with some pretty impressive detail considering the specks they represent in the main shot.

Seriously, go get lost in that thing.

Greece pictures are up

Here.

I will put together an abridged version in travelog form here, too, but the pictures themselves are ready. About 100 out of 500 taken.

Brrrr

Fortunately, we got spared the outages, so we were able to stay cozy this weekend. Erica's mother had to stay with us, because just 10 miles south she had no power until this morning.

My office party got canceled Friday, which sucked, but hey, some people really suffered this weekend, so whaddyagonnado?

Challenger tree.

Someone always has to have the UFO house. When it's fully inflated, I'll try to get a better shot of Santa fucking Rudolph.

Words fail

An absolutely stunning series of photos of the math and aftermath of Ike.

Oh yeah? Watch this!

So, about 5 minutes after I post the picture entry, I go looking for Erica, assuming she'd be on the couch watching HGTV or something. Nope. I wander upstairs, and she's at her computer looking at that very post. Good timing, I guess.

Her three comments?
1 - You're so cute
2 - You look just like your mother
3 - Nice cameltoe

Yeah, that's my wife. Anyway, I figured I should include her in the historical revue.

When we put together the Guest Book for our wedding, we went back and scanned pictures from similar stages in our lives.

Here they be:
Step 1 - Cuteness defined

Step 2 - At your service

Step 3 - I think they made a movie about this

Step 4 - OK, this just isn't fair

HEY! I was doing it for the kids! OK, fine... just my little brother. Still, I had to suppress a lot of teen-aged cool to do that shit.

Step 5 - Big hair and diplomas. Two great tastes that go great together.

Oh, and lest I forget...

Those legs? All mine, baby. Jeebus fuck - ballerina and cheerleader? Who needs a lottery ticket?

Fun with old pictures

Me and Mom, date unknown

Me and Dad, date unknown. Quite likely a few seconds before or after the previous pic.

My second birthday, in Greece. That's my grandmother (paternal) on the left, probably telling me to look at the birdie. (Κοιτα το πουλακι!)

Friends don't let friends drive Massey-Fergusons

Oh, shit, never mind. My grandfather had one of them too.

My father at 23 (1967)

My mother (middle) and her two sisters. Does it get any groovier than this?

Yes. Yes it does. My parents at my cousin's baptism. Holy fuck do I want a green suit right about now.

Who loves ya, baby?
or
Yeah, that collar's popped. Wanna make something of it?

Flikr browsing

I hate Flikr, because it's too damned slow, but this is an amazing way to browse photos by tags.

History! Photography! Baseball!

OK, I could just drop trou and "be alone with myself" I'm so excited.

This is so. Fucking. Cool.

Thanks so much to Petulant and his morning link-dump over at Shakesville.

No, we're not done here...

Let's play compare and contrast!

On your left, the results of Tuesday's storm. We got 6 more inches Wednesday, 8 more last night. Thus, we have the picture on the right. And it's supposed to snow some more.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Good morning!

2.5 hour commute last night, and just didn't feel like snowblowing, especially because they hadn't plowed yet. I wasn't going to spend all that time cleaning up, just to have to go out again to clean up the 4-foot plow ridge.

So.... up-'n-at-'em bright and early this morning.

Garden blogging

I'm going to float like a lepidoptera...

...and sting like a hymenoptera

They just didn't listen.

Oh no he di'n't!

Home-grown tomatoes are phenomenal.

No joke there. Next year we're doing a lot more plants. This year was a "do we have enough sun?" experiment.

Some Saratoga photo-blogging...

Bartender says "Hey, why the long face?"

Haaaaa!

Dude, that's stupid.

Hey! Jockey guy! We won by 25 lengths, we can stop now!

Just chillin'
