A chance encounter at a busy cafe leads to unlikely romance between the stiffest man on the planet (an accountant working for the Chancellor of the Exchequer), and a rather reserved, demure younger woman.
On a lark, he asks her to accompany him to the G8 Summit. That's where all hell breaks loose. Well, as loose as hell can break in a very reserved, British manner, of course.
A wonderfully touching movie. At turns hilarious (if for nothing else than the awkward dynamic between the protagonists), depressing, infuriating.
Bill Nighy (Constant Gardner, the Pirates trilogy, Hot Fuzz, Sean of the Dead, many more) plays his role perfectly. You feel for him even as you're aggravated by him. Kelly Macdonald (Gosford Park, Finding Neverland, No Country for Old Men), is fantastic. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are reasons for her alternately reserved yet combative nature. She just nails it. Great role, great performance.
